For whoever ends up planning the group trip

Plan the group trip together.

Window Seat is a group trip planner for friends and families. It keeps who's coming, what's booked, who owes whom and what's on this afternoon in one place.

Free while we're in beta. You're in right away. Planning, voting, the shared tab and settling up stay free after.

No app store needed: it opens in a browser and installs to your home screen.

What it does that a group chat doesn't

Surprises that never leak: the person a surprise is for sees only a sealed envelope with a time and a hint.

Fair money, kids included: shares are fixed to the cent when you log them, and a child's share lands on the adult who manages them.

Votes and polls: put two or three stays side by side and let people vote.

Who sleeps where: rooms, beds and who is in them, night by night.

Promises we keep

The short version of our privacy policy, true today. If the policy changes, so does this list.

  1. No ads

There are no ads in Window Seat, and we don't use what you add for advertising.

  2. Your information is not for sale

We don't sell or rent your personal information, and we don't share it for advertising.

  3. Surprises stay sealed

The database itself hides a surprise from the person it's for, so the details never reach their phone, not even by peeking at the app's data.

  4. Your trip is for the people on it

Only the people on a trip can see it. We look inside one only to fix a problem you've asked us to fix, or when the law requires it.

  5. AI only when a line needs it

When a line you type into + Add needs it, we send that line (and the trip's city and dates, nothing else) to our AI provider, Anthropic, to read it. Anthropic doesn't train on it.

  6. Leave when you like

Write to privacy@takethewindowseat.com from your sign-up address and we'll delete your account and private details within 30 days. What you added to a trip stays there for the others on it.

Questions people ask first

Do my friends have to download an app?

No. Window Seat opens in any phone or laptop browser, and installs to the home screen if you want it there. Friends tap your invite link and make a free account with their email.

Does it work without wifi?

Play mode keeps your plan, tickets, confirmation numbers and files on your phone, so you can read them with no signal. You can log an expense offline, and it sends when you're back online. Planning and voting need a connection.

What does it cost?

Nothing while we're in beta. Proposing, voting, the plan, the shared tab, settling up and inviting people will stay free. If extras ever cost money, you'll hear about it here first.

Who can see our trip?

Only the people on it. Your budget is yours alone; others see only group totals. Confirmation numbers stay with the people who need them. Surprises never reach the phone of the person they're for.

Can I plan with ChatGPT or Claude?

Yes. Copy the prompt from Paste from your AI on the Plan page, give it to any chatbot (free ones too), and paste its answer back. You check the list first, and only what you tick is added, as ideas.

Does Window Seat send my trip to an AI?

Not your trip. Paste from your AI is read by Window Seat itself, with no AI service. Only when a line you type into + Add is one the app can't make sense of, that line (and the trip's city and dates, nothing else) goes to our AI provider, Anthropic, which doesn't train on it. A trip's admins can switch that off in Trip settings. What you type into your own chatbot is between you and it; the prompt we give you names only the trip and its dates.

What if the AI gets something wrong?

It will sometimes. Chatbots make up prices, hours and even places. That is why you review the list before anything is added, and why pasted cards start as ideas the group can check.

Window Seat is for trips with your own people, not client itineraries. Travel pros, Travefy is that way.

I built Window Seat because every trip I plan dies in the group chat.
